Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Cafe Miller students learn by doing and by doing they increase their independence and employability.

Cafe Miller is the culinary arts work training program at Miller Career & Transition Center.

Miller CTC has approximately 220 students and is the first career and transition center for students with disabilities in the Los Angeles Unified School District's history. We provide employment-based training for non-diploma track, mild to moderately disabled and selected severely disabled students, aged 14-22 in Local Districts 1 & 2. We have on-the-job as well as on-site training , preparing students to transition into a variety of employment opportunities. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and versatile learning environment for every student. We are dedicated to maximizing student achievement, quality of life and individual self worth so each student will contribute to, and benefit from our diverse society.

My Project

With a new food processor and deep fryer, the Cafe Miller students will be able to further develop and showcase their skills through expanding our catering events and food services. The students will learn even more culinary skills & increase their independence exponentially.

Some of our supplies are donated and some are old.

Some have frayed cords or missing parts making them useless and unsafe. So that all our students in Cafe Miller can participate and grow in their abilities & self-confidence, these supplies are greatly needed so the students can continue to learn by doing.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
