Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

21st century skill building and historical research make for excellent and amazing classes, don't you think? But, alas, we need tech equipment, like camcorders, to meet that challenge! We hope you can help us.

My 7th grade students are awesome, but many face serious socio-economic challenges that impede their engagement in education.

Our Title 1 school is over 89 years old, in one of the most crowded and violent parts of the city. Our school is comprised of Latino and African-American students who are hungry for real educational opportunities. Our campus has recently been reorganized and is steadily improving in test scores and in decreased suspensions. These important improvements make for a better school day for all us. I love how creative my kids are and I am eager to provide them interesting and challenging projects! My students really enjoy working with new technology and I know this movie making project will truly inspire them.

My Project

I can only imagine our excited my students will be to do this project! We are planning to create stop-motion documentaries on the Renaissance, Reformation, Age of Exploration, Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment. My kids will do research, create storyboards, write and record scripts, draw and animate illustrations, edit their films, view them at our 1st Annual Film Fest, and receive "Academy Awards"! The Kodak camcorders and Dynex lights are perfect for our project needs as they are easy to use, sturdy, and designed for amateur filmmakers. Your gift of white card stock will help us create crisp, elegant images for our movies. I know this learning experience will develop life long skills most especially technology, group collaboration, and time management skills. My students will also develop that deeper, enduring learning of world history. Most importantly, I know my students will look forward to new educational experiences because they are more engaged in learning!

This project will truly make a huge impression on my students as it creates a dynamic opportunity for serious learning and creative expression.

Maybe this project will inspire the next Harryhausen, Spielberg or Scorsese? I am excited to find out... aren't you? Thank you so much!
