Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I spent the holidays experimenting with my brother's iPad. I am hooked. Now that I have seen the amazing things that it can offer to a classroom I am excited about incorporating it into daily lessons. It's not only a toy, but a fun educational tool.

My students are from a high poverty school in Southern California.

I have a classroom of 24 students. The majority are English Language Learners who receive free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work. Some are latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity.

My Project

My brother recently purchased an iPad. I spent some time tinkering with it and am now hooked. I saw the potential it had for enhancing my science, social studies and math lessons. For example, when learning about the seasons I could show videos on the changes trees go through. I could also show a visual of the Earth's rotation! It is so small and handy. It could be hooked up to our class projector and the whole class would be able to see it. I could also show visuals for plants, animals, weather or any other topic we study. Also the numerous apps that are available will contribute to their learning as well as keep them engaged and up to date with technology.

This donation will help me teach science lessons as well as the numerous other academic areas.

It will also help engage them in the lessons as well as provided much needed technology in my class room. With current budget cuts, technology isn't a priority anymore, and there are so many informative programs and Apps that can be found on an Apple iPad2.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
