Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Unfortunately, with all the budget cuts we are only allowed to three ink cartridges, black and color combined. Well, this year during the month of October my students did an investigation on a city wild life animal, and we used all three ink cartridges and don't have technology outside the classroom.

I am the third grade bilingual teacher at an elementary school in California.

Eighty-six percent of the students are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged and receive free breakfast and lunch. All of my students are from low income homes and have no access to technology outside of the classroom. My students are an eager bunch and truly enjoy learning, specially when they are using any type of technology. Therefore, I need help with purchasing ink so that they can print what they research. In addition, they are eager to get their hands on anything that is technology and providing this opportunity to write their projects and research topics on iPods will encourage my students to take the risk and write in English since they just transitioned from Spanish to English reading and writing.

My Project

My students need ink, we are allowed 3 cartridges per school year, we are also in need of technology, starting with 2 iPods will encourage my students to write. My third grade students will be working on several projects using their imagination. They will be investigating and analyzing a natural surrounding the way a blind person lives. They will create their own bedroom in a shoebox and writing descriptive paragraphs. In addition, they will also be investigating, designing,writing,and presenting a "new animal" in their natural environment by applying concepts previously learned in science and language arts. In providing my students with the resources their lives will change because they will be constructing descriptive paragraphs, illustrating, and investigating using technology. They will learn how to further their skills in creative expression, speaking applications, reading, and technology use.

They will acquire the skills in using technology to write, read, investigate, analyze, and present their projects. Furthermore, providing the ink to print their research will also support their reading and excitement of printing their writing and feeling proud of their work.
