Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a science teacher in a high needs school. My students have difficulty with writing and are academically delayed. They would really benefit from having a class set of headphones. This resource would enable students to work independently at their own pace.

The children I encounter on a day to day basis are faced with insurmountable obstacles.

Some live in shelters, others have parents incarcerated, siblings in gangs, etc. Often they are stressed and frustrated by their environment. If they had some independent work time they could work at their own pace viewing/listening to science documents.

My Project

I teach the entire seventh grade. These students vary in learning levels. Some children are English Language Learners, others are special education with academic disabilities, as well as honors and general education pupils. With that said, each of them works at a different pace. When taught as a whole class, students rarely speak up if they missed something. I feel many of them fear they might be teased because they work "slow." If I were supplied with headphones (& alcohol wipes to keep the headphones clean) it would enable students to work at their own pace when laptops were available.

Your help would empower my students to take chances and develop knowledge of science without having to struggle with limited resources and academic delays.
