This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students belong to a life-changing band program at my school. In the past year the band has grown from having just 10 students, to having over 170 students. The students at my school really love band, and we need help keeping our instruments in working order!

My students come from low income families.

A high percentage of students come from a poverty setting and are bused to our school. Our school is one of the most up-and-coming schools in the state in terms of test scores and academic achievement. It is rare to have such successful students in an urban setting. The success is because these students have a strong desire to further themselves and do great things with their lives.

My Project

These donations will drastically change the course of the band. Currently we only have about 45 instruments for the 170 students in band to use, so the students already have to share instruments daily. Instruments are not made to be used 5 times a day and our instruments are breaking quickly! Dave Helms is going to teach our students about basic concepts they can apply to help maintain the instruments as well fix the instruments that need to be repaired.

Having this project funded would be a game-changer for my students.

Our instruments are aging and are in desperate need of repair. Please help fix our instruments so that we can continue to learn and expand our love for band!
