Teaching Aviation Flight Training and Careers in Jr High

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you flew on a commercial jetliner or saw a military jet streak across the sky at an air show? I do, it was thrilling and the beginning of my desire of wanting to be a military pilot! That passion for flying was ignited by my Jr. High Teacher!

My EL students face many issues just completing their education.

Teaching them careers in aviation, commercial or military, will hopefully ignite a passion for learning more about science, math, and along the way make them better readers and writers of academic English. My students are 6-8th grade English Learners. They are Kinesthetic learners - (IE. hands-on learners) and enjoy talking about career skills. At this age they have ideas of what field they would like to work in. They just need further discussion in the different career fields. I would like to provide that for them, maybe visit some of those potential work locations for the experience.

My Project

The projector will enable my students to view their flight training accomplishments, in front of the class. This is very motivating for them. My middle school teacher instilled my desire for aviation and as a result, I became a career 24 year military pilot. In my 9 years of teaching after retiring from the military, my students have pursued engineering, science, math, and teaching careers! My students will be learning all about aviation careers including: aeronautical design engineering, ATC, engine maintenance, aero-medicine, route planning, and VFR & IFR Flight basics, to name a few subjects. My aviation career training school will introduce the various careers associated with the aviation industry- commercial or military. Once the students learn these careers they will know which ones they are interested in pursuing further. Then, we will get a chance to visit some of these work site locations to further enhance the students interest in those specific jobs.

Your donations to my Aviation School and career training projects will allow my students to gain an understanding and develop a life-long passion for an aviation career as a commercial or military pilot, Air Traffic Control, Aeronautical Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aviation Safety, Airport Security, Reservation Agents, and many more aviation related careers.

It could quite possibly change the rest of their lives. How cool would that be if that impacted your family, neighborhood!
