Mrs. Allen from Orlando FL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a variety of hands-on alternative energy lab experiments, a tablet PC, and Hot Dots science quiz cards and pens to learn about alternative energy.

More than 80% of the energy we use on a daily basis in the United States comes from fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas, all of which are becoming harder to find. By making students aware of alternative and renewable energy resources, we can change the way the world uses energy!
The students in my classroom come from a high poverty area of Florida.
100% of them receive free or reduced lunch due to their low socioeconomic status. They live in low income housing with many brothers and sisters and generally a single parent or guardian. They don't have access to the most common tools to be successful in school. In most cases, their guardians must seek help in order to maintain basic financial necessities.
Due to my students coming from low socioeconomic living conditions, many of them have experienced their parent or guardians' inability to pay bills and have witnessed the repercussions such as a lack of electricity, water, or even a home. I have requested a variety of hands on science materials for my students to utilize and explore in my classroom. They all relate to alternative forms of energy such as water, nuclear, wind, and solar, and allow students to not only generate an energy resource, but operate it and monitor energy usage. These hands-on experiments will ensure that students understand how energy works and provide them with ways to conserve it at home. By not only educating my students about energy but also providing the tablet PC for my students to use to research alternative and renewable forms of energy, they will be given the opportunity to conserve energy in their own home and in turn help their families. The quiz cards will check their comprehension of energy.
Providing my students with these materials will grant them access to a world of technology and research that they do not get access to on a daily basis.
You will also present them with the opportunity to introduce alternative and renewable energy forms into their homes and communities which will ultimately change the world!
