It All Starts with a Beat: Launching a Drumline!

My students need harnesses to be able to march with their bass and snare drums, and a set of quads to complete the sound.

My Students

In most scenarios, three drummers would be two drummers too many; but in our case, our drummers want to work together to launch their own drumline at our school. All we need is the equipment!

Our underprivileged students attend an urban high school that emphasizes community involvement and collaboration.

They love music and work hard but too often lack the financial resources for musical equipment. The vast majority of our students live in poverty, and a large percentage have special learning needs as well.

My Project

I have requested drum harnesses so students can march with their bass and snare drums and a set of "quads" (four tom-tom drums); with this equipment, our students will be able to launch a student-led drumline. They will work independently to run rehearsals and performances, and they are already planning to create a signature beat to represent the school. We are too small to have a marching band, but this drumline, as small as it is, could represent us at city events.

We are a cash-strapped urban school, and most of our resources have to go to mundane office supplies.

This may be the only chance to fund a new drumline for the school. The students' sense of accomplishment, pride, and confidence will be immeasurable. For an at-risk teen, this could literally change their life.
