"The internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow." - Bill Gates. Students need access to technology in order to understand the larger world in which they live.

I teach social studies to 9-12 students.

I teach a global studies course designed to increase global awareness. Many of my students come from active duty military families. Many of these students have dealt with deployments of parents in recent years. Global issues have greatly impacted these families. Other students in the school come from a traditional rural background. Most of these students have never traveled out of the country, and some have never even traveled out of the state. This global studies course in an elective and does not have any textbook or resources. Students need a netbook computer to access the plethora of resources that can be found on the Internet. We need your help, ABC Family! The students have asked for more computers and are excited about the possibility of creating blogs and wikis.

My Project

I am requesting a netbook computer. This computer would be used for a student center. We will create a classroom blog and they will use the computer to access international newspapers and resources. Since we do not have textbooks in this class, students need the internet for research. With a computer we can utilize resources such as the CIA World Fact Book and Google Earth. Also, students have mentioned the possibility of creating other projects, such as PowerPoints and movies.

As globalization continues to increase throughout the 21st century, student need to understand the world around them.

This course can help students gain that understanding, but we need more technology if we are going to make that happen.
