My Students

Yes, I keep hearing that we are going to a paperless society. But, that certainly has not happened in the public schools. And particularly in an urban high school such as mine.

I teach science to 9th, 11th and 12th graders in a small urban high school in Missouri.

While we are fortunate to have a small ratio of students to teachers, we lack the most very basic of essentials for teaching - PAPER! Our school district provides almost no supplies and most of our students are unable to provide their own, so it falls back to the pocketbooks of the teachers.

My Project

I think it sends a wrong message to students when we cannot provide them with the basic tools for school. We need to show them that they are worth the investment. Paper is such a small price to pay for such a huge message - that we believe in you, you are significant and we support you! I would so much prefer to spend my hard-earned dollars providing them with rewards than with basic supplies. My personal philosophy is that we should reward those for doing the right thing instead of punishing those who make poor choices and decisions. Donating to this project will greatly afford me more opportunities to do so.

It would be such a blessing to have plenty of paper on hand, so the students can be as creative as they desire.

Currently, I have to monitor my paper stock and I sometimes have to refuse their requests for more. That is a tragedy, in my opinion! Help me to help our future scientists by allowing their creative urges to flow without restraint!
