Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For a lot of our students, this is their first experience in a real gym. We want to show our PE classes and our athletes how to use the equipment properly and safely. We also hope that their experience will lead to a life long commitment to health and fitness.

The students who will be using the dumb bells we are hoping for are mostly our 9th and 10th grade PE classes.

Our weight room is also used by some of the athletic teams on campus. Our students come from mainly low income homes, but are known to show great generosity in times of need. Our students/school are making great strides academically and showing improvement in all areas. Our physical education facilities and much of our equipment is very, very old. We need an influx of new equipment to keep up with our students and with our community.

My Project

Our weight room is a mish mash of donated and acquired materials. We have quite a few machines but everything is really starting to show its age. Our weight room is used all the time by regular PE classes and by some of the school's athletic teams. We haven't had anything new or unused in quite a few years. A lot would be added to our existing weight room if we could attain a new and a COMPLETE set of dumb bells for our students. This would enable an entire class to be more active, and not require students wait while their classmates work out.

All of our students will have access to the weight room and its contents.

We hope that with the addition of the dumb bells, the weight room will inspire our students to work out. A better equipped work out facility will inspire our students to continue with a full and healthy lifestyle.
