Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class is always getting new students, which is very exciting, but we are always running low on basic supplies. We need several basic school supplies so that all the students in our class can have access to materials necessary for learning.
Our classroom consists of ten special education students from grades three to five.
They work extremely hard and show a passion for learning everyday! Demographically, our classroom is very diverse. Our students have roots in several Latin American countries. Ninety of the students in our class live at or below the poverty line and receive a free or reduced fee school lunch. We have recently had several new students join our class, but we are running low on supplies. Your help can make sure all students feel welcomed and provided for.
My Project
We use the supplies listed on our grant all the time. Everyday students use markers and dry erase markers to show their learning during lessons. We also mark our work with post-it notes to help us remember our thinking. While we have plenty of pencils, all of our erasers have been worn down and students have been stuck crossing off errors instead of erasing. We use paper everyday for worksheets.
Every lesson I teach requires that each student's specific learning need is met; this means I make many different work sheets for one lesson. This also means we use a lot of paper. We are currently completely out of paper and desperately need more. Finally, our class consists of growing readers who need access to level appropriate books. Our classroom library has gaps in it, leaving our students reading on a level E-I without sufficient books.
