Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help our classroom catch up with the rest of the world! Technology rules society today: PowerPoint presentations, the Internet, Online textbooks, blogs, etc. The students at my school are at a technological disadvantage because of the lack of technology available at our school.

Because of financial difficulties, our technology is pretty far behind the times.

I am just trying to help give my students a fighting chance with their education. Help us change that in my classroom. I am a 4th grade teacher in a Title 1 school in California. Most of my students are low income and are part of the free or reduced lunch program. My school is now a Program Improvement school with “hard working” students. The students have learned to do the best that they can with their limited resources. Only three out of my thirty students have access to computers with Internet at home. I believe in my students and I push them to their limits and I believe they will do their best to achieve their goals in life. We just need your generous help to help get them caught up to technology.

My Project

The Netbook has a lot of applications for all the different learning styles, that my students can use in different areas independently, and while also being excited about technology. With a Netbook, I could: create a rotational center where my students can use “Successmaker” (a individualized program that allows students to advance at their own pace in reading and math), take AR (Accelerated Reader) tests, use a word processing program to type essays, play multiplication games, use my school’s wireless network in order to access online textbooks, go on the Internet to research their upcoming reports, participate on a classroom blog, and create PowerPoint projects. The possible uses of this Netbook are never-ending!

With your generous help we will start to get them caught up to technology.

It will no longer take days to wait for a computer to type their finished essays. The Netbook will not only motivate them and engage them in learning, but teach students valuable technological skills which are critical in today's technological world. The Netbook will allow students to build, grow, increase their technological abilities, reading fluency, mathematical, social studies, and research skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
