Loving Learning with Laptops

My students need 2 laptops for our classroom to enhance and expand our learning.

My Students

Do you remember your first time at a computer? For many of my students, school is the first time they ever encounter this exciting technology. Being able to add 2 laptops to our classroom will allow my students to work big, dream big, and learn even bigger by becoming 21st century learners.

Our school is a low-income school full of high-loving students!

When the mills closed, our towns experienced the largest layoffs in North Carolina History. The area is still devastated economically and many of my children are given food when they leave on a Friday so that they have food to eat over the weekend. Many children in my class come from families that fall below the poverty line. However, no matter what their circumstances are, they strive to learn as much as they can. Our students struggle to obtain school supplies, and these along with uniforms are often supplemented by local churches. This is why I am so passionate about this request. We do not have a base in which to request funds for technology, but there is such a strong need to expose these children to the endless possibilities that a laptop can bring to their classroom and hopefully they will transfer that to the endless possibilities that life may have in store for them.

My Project

These laptops will not only supplement our instruction, but will guide and focus our learning. They will be used in each subject area to enhance our learning, while at the same time providing both enrichment and remediation to each individual student. Throughout the year, we plan to do research on presidents for a presidential address, animals, and weather to become weather broadcasters. While studying countries around the world, we will find pictures, learn about cultures, and be able to share our findings with parents and the community on international night. We will be creating advertisements, pamphlets, wordles, sport cards, or pictures to show understanding of concepts being taught in classroom. Also we will be able to take Accelerated Reader Tests, and be able to use computer based instruction programs to individualize instruction based on the needs of my students.

Just logging on to view this project, you most likely didn't think about it; your computer was just there.

For my students, this is only a dream. By funding my project, you will be funding hope and an avenue to expand not only my student's learning, but their world and their future.
