Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's hard to be different. It's also hard for people to accept those who are different. Bullying often seems to be the path students take to "accept" difference. Well, that is "UN"acceptable! Students should not be ostracized based on how they look, act or the clothes they can afford.
Our school is 100% poverty stricken, with only one other in South Carolina.
This is not an excuse for us though. We use this as a motivator. We want our students to be successful in all areas of life, by knowing how various things, like bullying, will affect their futures. I want to instill hope in my 13 eager students. I want them to spread their wings and help change the world. Despite their home lives (that are hard for me to fathom at times), my students arrive each day ready to learn with a smile on their face. They love school, and I want to give them every opportunity they deserve. Failure is not an option.
My Project
Bullying is increasingly becoming a greater problem in today's schools. Even with anti-bullying campaigns in schools, children still have problems applying what they are told to real life situations. With the fulfillment of this project, my class and I will be able to read "Bullying in Schools" as a whole group. We will be able to discuss what bullying looks like and how it makes people feel. We will be able to create strategies to implement in our class to help continue building a support system that will last for a lifetime. The other books I have requested will help show the different ways a bully works and thinks. They will help open my students' eyes to different scenarios that occur far too frequently in the real world. Each of these books will foster understanding and help avoid the creation of these actions in my students. The requested book bins will help organize the books to make them fully accessible to the students.
Understanding the problems and issues attached to bullying will open even more doors for my students.
They will be able to avoid the cycle that most believe they will follow, based on their backgrounds. By donating to this project, you will help my students blaze their own paths and take ownership for their actions. With generous donations from you, my students will become anti-bullying leaders in our school and community. Please help my students avoid being just another statistic!
