My Students

Our prolific students need display panels to show their artwork to their school community. Right now we have to use masking tape to tape artwork to the old brick walls. Many times our artwork just won't stay up!

My students are very, very diverse!

We have so much to share with each other. For many students in our community, english is a second or third language. Our school is economically diverse as well. Many families are in economic need. Sometimes coming to art class may be the only time students have the opportunity to make and discuss art. Art-making together unifies us in many ways.

My Project

We had our first successful Arts night last year at our school. We had a school wide (k-8) Art show (also a band concert) where students took pride in submitting their favorite piece of art. I was lucky to beg and borrow our district's old display panels from downtown. They were very old, extremely heavy, splintery wood panels. This year I was told they would not be available unless we rented them and paid for workman to deliver them and set them up. This would cost $400 just to borrow and deliver old broken down wood panels! The Art display panels that I would like to order are light-weight and we can put them up and take them down easily ourselves. We would keep them at our school and could use them again and again for arts night as well as science night.

Just look at a child's face beaming with creative satisfaction, and you will know that having a chance to display their artwork in an art show is a special experience.

They take pride in their work. Classes can go for an art walk and big kids can notice their younger schoolmates' art and vice versa. In the past, we could not hang up some of the heavier 3-d masks or projects taped to the brick walls, but these panels have hooks which make presenting mixed media pieces possible and more secure.
