My Students

Can you imagine missing out on a great book just because you didn't have the technology to be able to see the words on the page in a larger print? I do not want that to happen to my visually impaired student. I want her to find the joy in reading instead of getting frustrated.

I have a student who is visually impaired and can only see well out of the corner of her right eye.

She was born with this condition. She is the sweetest child and always tries her best and does not let her condition slow her down in the least bit. I want to do my best to make sure she has all the tools she needs to succeed.

My Project

At the school that I teach in we do a program called SEM-R for Literacy where we read and focus on novels that are in the students reading levels. The kids love this program and get to read lots of books that pique their interest and challenge them. We go through about one book every two weeks. My visually impaired student has to have words in large print in order to be able to see it. I have been copying the pages for her but we just keep reading more and more and it is getting harder to keep track of all of the pages. (Not to mention that I am running out on my allotted copies for the year and I am using a lot of paper.)

She could greatly benefit by having a Nook where we could download the books for her and she could increase the text size to help her see.

I also believe this will help foster a love of reading in her.
