My Students
Did you know that one simple addition to the classroom can aid in comprehension of all the academic subjects? As one of Howard Gardner's major intelligence areas, music is valuable for its own sake as well as for what it can add to a lesson.
We are a 3rd grade classroom at a charter school in Colorado.
Our school exists to foster a diverse and equitable community of youth and adults striving together for academic, personal, and civic excellence. The students that attend our school have come from all over the world and yet all blend together beautifully to create a successful learning community.
My Project
We all know how greatly music affects our feelings and energy levels! Without even thinking about it, we use music to create desired moods-- to make us happy, to enjoy movement and dance, to energize, to bring back powerful memories, to help us relax and focus. Music is a powerful tool for our personal expression within our daily lives-- it helps "set the scene" for many important experiences. I am requesting an IPod Nanon in order to bring music to my classroom.
The intentional use of music in the classroom will set the scene and learning atmosphere to enhance our teaching and learning activities. Plus, using music for learning makes the process much more fun and interesting! Music, one of the joys of life, can be one of the joys of learning as well.

By creating an atmosphere that helps to reach additional learning styles, I can be a more effective teacher.
