Your generosity made our Animal Kingdom unit come alive in ways that paper and pencil never could. The books you provided gave my students rich, detailed information about animal groups, habitats, and adaptations. They eagerly pored over the pages, sharing new discoveries with one another, and many who usually shy away from nonfiction were suddenly hooked.\r\n\r\nThe clay was a huge hit as well. Students used it to create models of animals, showing the features that help them survive in their environments. One group designed desert creatures with long legs and special water-storage humps, while others crafted sea animals with fins, gills, and protective shells. It was incredible to see students connect what they had read with their creative models, demonstrating true understanding of the science content.\r\n\r\nThis project also helped my students gain confidence. One child who rarely speaks in class proudly explained the adaptations of the clay animal he created. Another student who struggles with reading found a new favorite book about mammals and shared facts with her peers for days afterward. These moments showed me how powerful hands-on learning can be.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project built excitement and curiosity. My students weren't just memorizing facts about the Animal Kingdom—they were imagining, questioning, and applying their knowledge. The learning was joyful, collaborative, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nYour kindness made all of this possible. Thank you for believing in my students and giving them the tools to see science in a whole new way.","fullyFundedDate":1746460953069,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-science-books-and-clay-for-cur/9193192/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Science: Books and Clay for Curious Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Miles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp116070_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1455934313511","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/heathermiles"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75554","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":591,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":42,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":55.1,"schoolId":75554,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Highline Academy Southeast on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Highline Academy Southeast","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/denver-public-school-district-1/highline-academy/75554"}
