My Students

This tablet has unlimited uses in my elementary classroom. The subject I am most looking forward to integrating technology is writing class. The tablet will be used to capture nature photography and then inspire students to write Haiku poetry in an outdoor setting.

My elementary school is located in Western Wisconsin.

We are one of the few remaining neighborhood schools in this city of 60,000. Most of my students walk to school and live within one mile. We are a Title I school with 54% of our student population receive free or reduced lunch. My students love technology and learning with hands-on manipulatives. Writing is a subject that we need to improve, especially our writing skills and desire to write.

My Project

A tablet would increase the students engagement in many subject areas. I would allow the students to use the tablet in every subject area. The emphasis would be to increase the students level of engagement in writing class. During our poetry unit we would take pictures with the tablet inside and outside of the classroom. These pictures will serve as inspiration to type poetry on location with the tablet. I believe this tool will allow me to make fourth grade writing class very memorable. I also believe this will make our poetry unit more enjoyable for the fourth grade boys.

I am going to start an after-school club for students in grades two through five for students who want to learn more about nature.

This tablet will also be used during the after-school club. I think this tablet could be the insipriration to develop a life-long love of nature photography and writing.
