The chair leg bands have also been a hit: students who usually wiggle or struggle to sit still are now able to bounce their feet quietly and stay tuned in during lessons, which has helped many of them feel calmer and more focused.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our reading, writing, and group activities, these seating options are making a big difference in how engaged and comfortable students feel. We use these items everyday. Around the room, we have six different places for students to sit flexibly, using the stools and bean bag chairs. Everyday, students use fidgets to reset after lunch so we are calm for reading. We sit at the carpet throughout the day, from morning meeting to math. The circle spots help us space out so everyone is a part of the circle. Plus, I was excited to see a students pick up one of the books right away!\r\nWe have had a pretty good start to the school year. We have started to learn about emotional regulation with the Zones curriculum. Next week we will be starting a new science unit on ecosystems and a new reading unit on Don Quixote. Students are looking forward to showing their science projects off to the fourth grade, and we have an exciting field trip coming up!
