This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Without a sketchbook, would we have Geurnica?" Picasso demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent in his early years...and it all started with a sketchbook!

I teach high school students grades 9-12 in an at-risk community.

My classes are visual art classes. My students are mostly eligible for free lunch from the state. Most of the students do not have extra money for quality art supplies. No more supply money! My school doesn't have enough money to fully fund a quality arts education. The students do not have the money to afford to pick up the school's slack.

My Project

My students and I believe that in order to produce quality works of art, you need good supplies to work with. If each student has a sketchbook, they will feel like real artists. They will be able to reflect on their work as time passes by having it bound in one place. I have taught them that all artists have working sketchbooks in progress at all times in order to brainstorm ideas, practice their skills and prepare for large projects.

By donating, YOU will empower my students to be real artists and give them the much needed opportunity to express themselves.

My students do not have an outlet to vent their feelings, explore their ideas or create art work in a positive manner. These sketchbooks will become permanent stable reminders of their creativity and self-discovery.
