My Students

Middle schoolers asking for classical music and to hear about new books? Yes, they are!

Our student population is over 90% free or reduced lunch.

Most of our kids live in poverty and one of their favorite things to do is to visit the Hot Books Cafe in our library, to read and enjoy themselves. This has helped to create a culture of reading that we hope will last a lifetime.

My Project

Our students are requesting to listen to classical music each day in the library while drinking hot chocolate, tea, cider, etc. This means that an iPod and iPod dock are necessary. Other students are requesting to be able to see (on a TV) short iMovies about new books. This all makes our students more well-rounded and causes them to take more pride in their school and even themselves.

This project would help our cafe be bigger and better.

It would make students happy and to help create even more of a culture of reading in our school. Seeing our students at the library each morning makes our entire staff so excited to come to work each day. Our library has become a place where students want to be for the first time in years.
