My students need cooking utensils and appliances, like a convection oven, a steamer, and a burner, to help them learn how important and easy it is to prepare healthy, nutritional, delicious meals.
Kids these days are growing up overweight and not getting proper nutrition. Something needs to be done. My students need to learn about healthy eating habits. It's time for the Food Revolution to reach my middle school students!
I am a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in a public school in New Jersey.
My students come from an ethnically diverse urban population. My building houses students in grades Pre-K through 8. In my classroom you will find enthusiasm, creativity, different learning styles, and hard workers.
My Project
The cooking appliances and tools that I am asking for will help my students realize how easy it is to make healthy meals for themselves and their families. The majority of my students have busy parents that work full-time, so cooking nutritious meals every night is not always a priority. The cooking utensils will allow my students to get hands-on cooking experience. I will teach them nutrition and cooking basics. Together, we will create and enjoy healthy meals that are quick and easy to make at home. In addition to the nutritional education my students will gain from this project, they will also practice mathematical skills when converting recipes and figuring out nutrition statistics.
