Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students will have an appreciation for music as an art form. As Hans Christian Anderson said, "When words fail, music begins."

I teach beginning band, concert band, jazz band and wind symphony.

My students are located in the fourth largest school district in the United States. This school, built in 1962, has a high percentage of students who are on the federally-funded free lunch program. It is a diverse student population in a large middle school setting. My students are highly motivated to learn about all styles of music and funding for the arts is very limited or no existent.

My Project

With these moothpieces and reeds my students will be able to create music from different genres, such as jazz, classical, Latin and world music examples. Students will be able to perform in concerts and in competitions. Without these materials, students will not be able to share their talents with the community.

Music inspires children to achieve at a higher level and cultivates creativity.

Music helps students become higher order thinkers, problem solvers and it helps them become more disciplined.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
