My Students

A picture might be worth a thousand words but listening is equally important.

My students are three to five years old.

They and their families live in a rural area. The majority of them receive free or reduced price lunches because of low incomes. They are active, inquisitive children. Some of the children in my class have disabilities, some are considered at risk, and some are typically developing children.

My Project

The parents and children enjoy seeing pictures of what happens in the classroom. I post pictures to a BLOG so parents know what their children are learning. We take pictures of activities and then the children write about what is happening in the pictures. We bind these stories into a classroom book. A favorite is "The Night the Animals Slept Over." They bring a favorite stuffed animal to class. The animals have a sleep over where I pose them and take pictures. Of course the animals leave pictures of their antics. When the children come in the next day, they write about the animals and make a book. We use lots of music and movement in our classroom. Our CD player is dying and we need a new one. The children learn topics such as alphabet, color, and math through our songs. By having a listening center with this cd player, they can listen to stories on their own. This will excite their desire to learn to read by themselves.

I have always used my digital camera to take classroom pictures.

It stopped working last week. I would like to get a camera to keep in the classroom so that I don't have to keep carrying mine back and forth or not having it with me when I need it. Our CD player is starting to skip and scratch my CDs. We really need a new one before this one either quits or ruins any more CDs.
