As the card games came in, I processed them to get them ready for students to check out and use. Many students were amazed and excited to check out card games to play with friends. I had even created an informational pack that is sitting with the card games about different games that can be played with standard playing cards. \r\n\tStudents are using their downtime at school to socialize with friends while playing card games. Some of my students who are ahead on their classwork are checking out card games to play during class. Just before lunch, a student came to get a deck of cards to teach their friends a new card game during their lunch break. It is wonderful for students to learn how to play new games and socialize with a purpose. \r\n\tThis project has started a new section in the high school library for students to check out and enjoy. One day next month, the library will host a game hour for students to come play different card games and socialize. With this event in the library, more students will learn about the new game section and be introduced to new games and how to play them. Some of the games that are part of this project that students might not know are FLUXX and Monopoly Deal. Luckily, we now have the \"6 Geo Puzzles\" that includes Africa. Students individually used the map puzzles to help them study the names and locations of the countries. The social studies teacher mentioned that some of the maps students can do for the puzzle are some that she has not been able to get to yet and was pleased that the students can be introduced to them. \r\n\r\nPuzzles are not only challenging for students but also a relaxing mind break from everyday school studies. There have even been students begging to start a new puzzle while all surfaces needed for the extended puzzle project are in use. It is exhilarating to see students excited to try new things and want to have challenging experiences. They will get to do the 500-piece challenging puzzle very soon.","fullyFundedDate":1734370191880,"projectUrl":"project/puzzling-students-minds/8681765/","projectTitle":"Puzzling Students' Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. M Metcalf","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9692839_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758570203374","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9692839"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56725","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":369,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":84,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":58.4,"schoolId":56725,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Elk School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Elk School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kansas/west-elk-unified-school-district-282/west-elk-junior-senior-high-school/56725"}
