Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 2nd grade teacher at an inner city school in Compton, California. We are a Title I School in which all of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our student body is half African-American and half Latino.

Imagine all students eagerly working independently at their desks as they sort through the workshop activities to sound out each sight word.

Then they would get a chance to practice writing them down on a laminated activity mat to apply their learning right away. At these ready to use centers, the students can practice identifying basic sight words to help them become successful readers. As they get better at identifying more sight words they can use the Beat the Clock Sight Words booklet to enhance how quickly they could identify these words in a minute.

My Project

These learning tubs can help my students master the essential skills that are crucial to succeed in the 2nd grade. Our school motto is, “All Bunche Bears are College Bound!” This motto is ingrained into my students as early as 2nd grade. In order to help them reach their goal, I need to provide them with the mastery of as many Language Arts skills as possible. My students need to target the standards that assist them with decoding and word recognition. These learning tubs will do just that.

These learning centers are presented in an interactive game-like format that will keep my students stay engaged in every aspect of their learning process.

These games are a sure way for the students to learn. I want to make workshop time the highlight of their learning experience. I want to provide my students with as many learning games to keep them engaged and motivated during workshop. Please help my students learn through engaging interactive activities!
