This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how engaging a new piece of technology was in your classroom? My students have had the luxury of enjoying a visual projector in our class, but we have lacked other technology to make it come to life. We really need a document camera so we won't be technologically left behind!

I have twenty amazing 4th graders in my class this year who are hard working, dedicated scholars.

They are incredibly eager to learn and achieve, and they really represent our school's culture as a whole. We are an "inner-city," small, community based school in California that is really a model elementary school for our district. Even though we are a Title 1 school with about 98% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch, we are beating the odds with a very large percent of our school achieving grade level performance in language arts and math by the end of each year. The secret to our success is an amazing community of families, teachers, and school staff that work and collaborate together to ensure the best possible educational experience we can for our students. After 11 awesome years at this school, I am committed to continuing this work and helping students achieve.

My Project

I am very excited at the potential of having an ELMO document camera to compliment the visual projector I already have mounted in my classroom. A document camera has so many great teaching applications that it really is becoming a "must have" in any modern class. The significant reason why an ELMO would be a major asset in my class is the way I could give instant feedback to students. For example, if I as the teacher, am seeing a common writing or math mistake that a critical mass of students are making, I could use one student's work as an example to help all students overcome the mistake. Instead of creating an overhead transparency of the students work to use as an exemplar, we can use the document camera to instantly take a picture/video of the work and learn together. Students can also use the device to demonstrate something and then have it projected to more than one class. Lastly, we can project images of three dimensional objects and not be limited to two dimensions.

Overall, it is extremely important to integrate technology in "today's classroom." The applications of a document camera are many, and it also creates a "Wow" factor that the students really appreciate.

The instant feedback application of the device is really what is driving this request, but also a want to stay technologically relevant as a teacher and school is important. For anyone considering funding this project, my students and I thank you for your consideration!
