Under Construction - Math in Real World Situations
My students need architectural and measurement templates and kits to complete a hands-on construction unit that will incorporate real world skills and ideas.
"Under Construction"!! Those words release the imagination in a combination Math and Industrial Technology Unit. Students will work to create a dream home by designing, planning, and drawing a scale blueprint. Once blueprints are complete, students will use the 3-D kits create a model of their home.
My students reside in a rural community in Western
Arkansas.
These students attend a middle school which houses 6-8 grades. Our school is in a high poverty area and has many free or reduced lunch participants. These students have little opportunity to create such things as a model dream house. The hope is that projects such as this one will expand students hopes and dreams.
My Project
With the help from Donors Choose - I hope to purchase 3D House Model Kits for my students to make their dreams come to reality! These supplies will allow students to CREATE a model house from their own blueprints. Students can take control of their own learning and the outcome by using math/industrial technology skills to make their ideas come to LIFE! The hope is that once students see their creations it will inspire them to put their full effort into everything they do in life and possibly give them a dream for the future!
Due to budget restrictions, I am requesting these supplies for my students to use.
Our class currently has enough supplies for groups to choose ONE house to create, but with the Donors Choose additional supplies it will allow every student to create their home. No one will have to be excluded!
