My Students

Imagine being a 12-18 year old student who has an hour Physical Education block everyday and no equipment to use or play with.

We are an alternative school in rural south Alabama.

We service up to 45 students who are being disciplined for their actions both in school and in the community. These students are by no means bad children they have just made poor choices and are here because they are willing to be held accountable for their actions. All our students are here to better themselves and re-enter the regular school environment. We receive no funding other than the payment of our electric, water and garbage bill. We operate on a bare minimum and completely rely on donations, fundraisers, and grants to obtain the instructional tools we need.

My Project

Due to our extremely limited budget we do not possess any physical education equipment. This ping pong table will be greatly appreciated by the students and myself. It will give us an indoor activity for students to participate in during all those 98 degree and 99 percent humidity south Alabama days of the school year. I have surveyed my students and I do not believe a single one of them is a skilled ping pong player but I know several of them could be and I know all of them will be happy to participate. This will be a skill they can learn for recreation and exercise that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives and pass onto others.

Our students need this.

They spend their day working on a credit recovery program and it can be very mentally tiring for them. Their only break from this is the 1 hour P.E block and they have nothing to do but walk and talk during that time. If you are looking for something to donate to we are in desperate need of this equipment and your money will go directly to something that will be used everyday to instead of something that's gonna sit on a shelf in a classroom and gather dust.
