Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Over the past 5 years my students have participated and won at least one of four categories for our state video competition. My students are continuing to desire to compete in more categories,but I do not have access to a camcorder that is required for this higher level of competition.

I teach students from throughout our district who desire to come to our technology magnet school.

I teach media design to roughly 200 middle school students. One of the skills I teach is video production. We now have Adobe Premiere Pro and students who are motivated to enter video contests, produce commercials and create their own "blockbuster short movies". I do have the skills to teach this, but I do not have the high quality camcorder that is required for this level of production. My students are begging my to help them upgrade from the Flip camcorders and use the "real stuff". They want to get the real experience to get the real job skills for their careers and college applications. Please understand these are very motivated students with a persistent desire to learn and achieve the best from themselves. This is a good thing in education.

My Project

These students want to learn and apply their creative minds for a good cause. They are currently only limited by the fact that we do not have a high quality camcorder. With this new setup the students will be able to compete in high quality film festivals. We have won every year in the ones with have competed with the low level video cameras I do have. They are ready for a bigger and better competition, but they need this equipment. The student will be able to work as teams to enter original, documentaries, commercials, short movies, public service announcements and many more categories in the various film festival for students. All of these film festivals require a higher quality video than we can currently produce. This is why we need this set-up to compete against schools that have more funding. My students want to learn these skills and work together in groups towards a productive future.

Please support these students in their goals to gain real skills and work collaboratively towards a high quality video that will help provide them with many opportunities now, in high school, in college admissions and in real life.
