Exploring Nature At Camp K.E.E.P.

My students need 14 binoculars to see whales, coyotes, bobcats, birds, and other wildlife while exploring nature at camp K.E.E.P.

My Students

Most of our students have never seen a whale or a bobcat. Their jaws drop when they see them for the first time, and they are very excited to see them up closer with binoculars.

Our students are from inland California and are often seeing the ocean and wild animals for the first time.

Most of their families cannot afford to take them to the ocean or camping. They live in an area that is technically a desert. Sometimes they come from very urban areas that very few green areas. Children are naturally turned on by nature and are ready to learn science when it is hands-on like this.

My Project

We will use these binoculars to see whales in the ocean, and wild animals from a safe distance. Part of learning about science is using tools such as binoculars, microscopes, and telescopes to observe the animals and ecosystems that we are learning about.

This is often a life-changing experience for them to see the world outside of their neighborhood.

They will go on with a better understanding of their world and of themselves after this experience.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
