Can you imagine the sheer delight of holding a living fish in your hands. Imagine the excitement as a squid jet propels to another area in a holding tank and color changes right before your eyes? Can you close your eyes and dream of being on a boat ride?
Ours is a high performing high school, ranked number 4 based on our NC state ranking system.
We are a rural school, an honor school of excellence, with about 850 students. Our school is luckily located on the coast; we are situated by the sound with easy access to the ocean.
My Project
But some of these same students have not been on a commercial or research -based boat. With this grant, my students do not have to imagine the ocean's secrets. They can experience a bonafide scientific vessel and we can trawl the water column to sample the nekton marine life, and dredge the bottom to sample the benthos critters.
My eager high school students have a chance to EXPERIENCE the salt in the air and the wind in their hair.
They will certainly learn a great deal as we take an adventure on the high sea. Won't you please be a part of our journey?
