My Students

At the end of the 2010/2011 school year, I reflected on all my thematic units. One unit I wish I could improve with better materials, is my unit on rocks and Earth Science. Please help me teach about this great hands-on unit…let’s all Rock 'N Learn!

I teach 1st grade at an AMAZING public school in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.

I love the enthusiasm my students have towards learning. It is their enthusiasm that encourages me to look for ways to enhance my teaching and find great, innovative materials to make learning fun. Their love of learning is what drives me to give them the best because that is what they deserve!

My Project

From the glassy texture of obsidian to the distinct layers of mica, the requested rock collections will allow students to explore the properties of rocks, fossils and minerals firsthand! Each of the 5 requested collections includes 15 easy-to-handle specimens all labeled for easy identification. The rocks/minerals pocket chart will help reinforce important science vocabulary from magma and lava to weathering and continental drift. This kit features 20 vocabulary words that represent key rock & mineral concepts with 20 corresponding definition cards with level-appropriate text & helpful illustrations so they’re perfect for whole-class science lessons, small-group exploration or even as an independent matching activity!

All of these great, interactive materials will jazz up my unit on Earth Science and rocks.
