Butterfly Cycles and School Traditions Year 5

My students need butterfly larvae, culture food, and amazing bugs sets.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an amazing urban school in New York City. My kids come from different backgrounds and often struggle with difficult home lives and learning. I believe each kid has the potential to overcome all obstacles if you can catch their interests and make them excited about learning.

Last year, for the fourth time, my school completed a school wide project that captured the interest, excitement, and compassion of every student, teacher and parent.

We did a school wide butterfly release in our school garden (in the butterfly garden corner). I was fortunate enough to get the kits donated, but now due to continuing budget cuts we are unable to purchase the supplies to keep this tradition going. Most of the students come from poverty so unfortunately they are not able to help.

My Project

This grant would allow us to continue the school wide butterfly release project. This project teaches about lifecycles, food chains, compassion towards nature, ecosystems, and the needs of living things. The teachers also used this to spark poetry writing, art projects, and even a play. Also being a school wide project, it was great to have everyone in the building working together and having something in common to discuss. These kits are a great way to get the kids interested in learning.

Please help provide my kids with this wonderful project.

You will ensure that our school tradition continues and grows. I can't wait to show you how much this tradition means to my students, you will read their excitement in their letters and see it in the pictures!
