My Students

At the end of the 2010/2011 school year, I reflected on all my thematic units. One unit I wish I could improve with better materials is my unit on rocks and Earth Science. Please help me teach about this great hands-on unit…let’s all Rock On!

I teach 1st grade at an AMAZING public school in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.

I love the enthusiasm my students have towards learning. It is their enthusiasm that encourages me to look for ways to enhance my teaching and find great, innovative materials to make learning fun. Their love of learning is what drives me to give them the best because that is what they deserve!

My Project

I am requesting an Earth Science book set so my students can explore the fossils of a saber-toothed tiger, discover how mountains form, learn why plants need soil to grow and more with super-engaging books! This set includes 6 paperback books filled with fascinating facts and full-color photos on every page, plus clearly written text that simplifies important earth science concepts like erosion, faults, the rock cycle and more. I would also like an elementary science instant learning center on rocks so students can work at their own pace to identify different types of rocks, compare their physical attributes and more! This center includes 12 rock specimens in 4 drawstring storage pouches, 4 activity mats and 4 markers. We also need a learn about rocks & minerals discovery center with 80 easy-to-handle specimens—4 each of 20 different types—perfect for weighing, classifying and there’s even a reference chart for easy identification.

All of these great, interactive materials will jazz up my unit on Earth Science and rocks.
