Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you recall being a kid during a simpler time when most moms' only job was to stay home and take care of the family? In our school, most parents work 2 or 3 jobs and don't have time to visit the classroom to see what is taking place. My blog and its photos will allow parents to do just that.
I work in a Title 1 school in a large urban district.
Our school's population includes families from over 50 different countries, including recent arrivals.
I currently coteach with a special education teacher. Approximately one-third of our students are learning disabled and/or physically handicapped. Many of our students' parents work multiple jobs and live in an impoverished area of the city. They either do not drive or do not have the time to come visit our classroom. That, however, has not diminished their desire to be a part of the learning process.
Our students are charming, enthusiastic, and highly motivated. They love learning and they want to share their classroom experiences with their families.
My Project
My coteacher and I have created a class blog that keeps parents up to date with what the children are learning at school. With the help of a good compact digital camera, we would be able to include photos and video clips of the children engaged in many wonderful learning experiences. This would make it possible for parents, especially those who cannot physically come to the classroom, to visit the blog and in doing so, be a part our school family. This blog also contains many useful student and parent links for enhancing learning. It is our hope that parents will be encouraged to visit the blog often as new photos are posted. In doing so, we hope to make parents an active part of the learning process.
Parents are such an important part of the learning experience.
With the help of this camera, even the busiest parent will be able to "stop by" the classroom at their convenience and see what their children are learning. This technology will bring the joy of learning to them.
