Visit the Moon and Reach for the Stars

My students need a telescope to open up their world!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want my students to reach for the stars, but first they must visit our solar system! We have an amazing 6 week unit on Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. With a telescope, my students will be able to see a different side of our Moon and solar system.

My students are wonderful and intelligent.

Unfortunately we come from a low income, Title 1 school that does not have the resources to help students gain experience in every facet of learning. My third graders get so excited about our themed units they can barely contain themselves.

My Project

I am requesting a telescope that will allow my students to track the phases of the moon. Students will also be able to answer many of their own questions including, "Is there really a man on the moon?" or "What does the surface of Mars look like?" I also hope to have a Family Night where parents are able to join their children as we find constellations.

Students in our area need the opportunity to experience different fields of education possibilities, and the telescope will show students the possibility of becoming an astronomer or a researcher.
