My students need books, including "Harry Potter", biographies and classics, "The Chronicles of Narnia" and more to complete their reading lounge. We are attempting to turn an unused office into a tranquil reading space!
Quiet, comfortable, inviting. These are the words that describe an ideal space for reading and this is what I am attempting to create for my students!
I teach in a magnet school where I serve students with a wide range of abilities.
Many of my students are just learning to read while others read well above grade level. One common thread runs through most of my students, the love of reading and books!
My Project
As the literacy coach, it fills me with joy to see students who have a genuine love for reading. If they had the choice, some students would rather read a book than play at recess. They have a thirst for knowledge and understand the magic that is unlocked when you open a book.
I am attempting to create a reading lounge that allows students to come and read for pleasure in a quiet place that is surrounded by books. At present, when students get free time to read, it is not always a guaranteed quiet time. Often times it is when they have finished their work but others may still be working.
We need books, including Harry Potter, biographies and classics, The Chronicles of Narnia and more to complete their reading lounge. With the reading lounge, students would be able to come with their teacher's permission and sit in a comfy bean bag or a cozy spot on the floor and just read. They could bring their own book or choose one from the collection in the lounge.
With your help, we can stock our reading lounge with books that would peak our students' interest.
This would intensify their love of learning and show them that we value their thirst for knowledge. Please help our students by contributing to our reading lounge.
