Remember how fun it was to "pretend" when you were little? Well, Readers Theater activities will give students the opportunity to "pretend" while they are reading stories and increasing the rate at which they read at the same time.
This project would be used by all grade levels K - 5th grade.
I teach music in an elementary school, and use hands-on activities to not only teach music, but to integrate reading skills as well. The students love to sing, dance, play instruments, and act things out. These are all ways to help students internalize what they are learning by using total physical response. Readers Theater provides the same response, while increasing their fluency when they read.
My Project
Using puppets and a puppet stage to act out the stories they are reading will be SO exciting and fun for these students. It will also provide an opportunity for the students to use these puppets to make up their own stories that they can share with others.
