My Students

The honesty and humor that Dav Pilkey and Davis Shannon put in their books have my students excited to read! Please help me bring more of their great books to my kids.

My students are smart, kind and always willing to help each other.

Because of their good behavior and excitement to learn, it can be easy to forget that they come from a rough neighborhood with a gang presence and that their parents often work multiple jobs. My goal is to give my students the best education possible, so they can turn their communities around.

My Project

Books are important because they play with the limits of reality and are a testing ground for social progress. Books for young readers, however, are often nonsensical, the characters are overly perfect and the conflicts boring at best. Dav Pilkey and David Shannon are different. Those authors expose the difficulties of being a little kid in a humorous and engaging way. I've already invested in a few titles by those authors and I often have to mediate fights about who gets to read the books next. With your help I want to build up my classroom library with Shannon and Pilkey books. More titles in the classroom will take those authors from being a rare treat to core element of instruction. These books are ripe with humor and commentary and will lay the groundwork for my students to be critical readers for the rest of their lives.

Friendly dogs with terrible breath, a hyper boy with too many toys, a school principal who moonlights as a super hero.

Please help me bring these excellent characters and stories to my kids so that they can understand just how magical reading really is.
