My students need 3 sets of leveled classic big books, such as Goodnight Moon and Caps for Sale to practice oral reading fluency. They also need a big book storage cart.
I can read it! Can you read it? This is what I hear when my students are engaged during oral reading fluency. My little ones come to school eager to read. However, they are tired of reading the same books day after day. We need your help to build up our classroom library!
My students attend a school where 77% are on free/reduced lunch.
The community is at a high poverty rating. Unfortunately, my 18 little ones are unable to afford the learning experiences that could be available to them at school. I want to create a reading center for my students that they will continue to remember for a lifetime. However, our classroom is limited to the amount of books available to them.
My Project
Students are highly inspired by what they read. I want our classroom library to be a place where they can go and open up a world of imagination by turning each page. Big books are a great resource to increase reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. It is hard seeing my students get discouraged when they have to read the same books everyday. The reading center becomes boring to them. I want to see excitement during reading.
By providing my students with these materials, they will have a learning experience that is full of new and exciting adventures! The more books my students have, the more inspired they will be. I want my students to never want to put their book down. This project will provide my students the confidence to become independent readers.
This project is important to me because I know the benefits of the level of engagement classroom libraries provide.
By supporting our project, my students will be provided with wonderful materials that will enhance their learning from day to day. My students will no longer become bored with the same book they read each time they go to the reading center. Instead, they will become excited with the new BIG books available to them!
