Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Even in the age of technology, books can be one of our most valuable assets. My students need to work on literacy and being able to use books properly. Books allow students to actually hold information in their hands and learn important skills such as how to use indexes and glossaries.
My students are an amazing group of teenagers.
They are very enthusiastic and excited to be in high school and be at a brand new school. My freshman class will be our first graduating class. We are a small technology-based school in Indiana. We draw a diverse group of students from many ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is hoping to be an inspiration in our community and provide students with the greatest education possible. We are focused on learning not only content knowledge, but technology skills and life skills such as how to work in a collaborative setting, critical thinking and how to communicate in a professional manner. The hope for our school is that we will provide all students with the skills to become valuable, contributing members of their community weather they choose college, a trade program, or other job training.
My Project
With the additions to our library, students will be able to use books for research and leisure. My students need to practice reading on paper as much as possible. Students will be able to quickly seek out new information. It is so important for students to learn that valuable information can come resources other than Wikipedia. My students will be able to read an interesting, educational book if they finish an exam or assignment early.
Students will be able to build not only their science content knowledge but also improve their reading and research skills.
Access to books is so valuable for my students and something they often lack the ability to have.
