This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Limited funds should not limit education. Allow these students to learn about their world, one click at a time. My students come from single parent, low income families where money is spent putting food on the table. My students deserve to have access to their world regardless of how much mom makes.
My students come from broken homes, involving drugs and abuse, where parents are not always there and there's not always food on the table.
My students have parents that work more than one job, who cannot always help with homework. My students are English Language Learners, who can't always get the help they need. My students often worry more about what they have to go home to than how much homework they have to complete that night.
My students are hard working and diligent. My students are intelligent and determined. My students are often judged by where they live and go to school rather than their capacity to learn. My students flourish when they are given the opportunity and the materials they need to succeed. My students are future doctors, lawyers and leaders of a nation that doesn't always put them first.
My students CAN and WILL make a difference in this world if people are willing to believe in them enough to give, and give them a chance.
My Project
A picture is worth more than a thousand words. With the use of a laptop, my students will not only be able to see their world, but experience it as well. Whether it is learning vocabulary in another language, or visiting the great Egyptian Pyramids, they will be better equipped to achieve academic success based on their OWN personal experiences. My students will be able to navigate through foreign countries and even outer space!
With the ability to see the concepts, the students get a better grasp on what they are learning, which builds confidence and academic success.
The laptop will be EXTREMELY valuable when it comes to social studies, where students can see videos of miners panning for gold, view what the missions looked like or even read the contents of the U.S. Constitution.
In science, we could view the Redwood Forests and all the interesting animals, insects and fungi that make up that ecosystem!
You don't think twice when it comes to answering a call on your cell phone or checking your email.
What about the children who do not have access to such technology? This laptop will allow my students access to their world. They are able to see the past, succeed in the present and change the future!
The ability to use technology in my classroom will change how my students learn and increase their participation and confidence in their abilities, which will directly reflect in their academics.
