My students have the odds stacked against them. They are with me, hearing English for a short amount of time. When they leave my classroom, they do not hear English.
When the school year started, one of my students asked, in Spanish, when we were going to learn to speak English.
Now everyday before school starts, he looks for the aide he spoke to and he asks her if THIS is the day he will learn to speak English. My students are super excited to learn. They come to school not ever having held a pencil or touched a book. They have not been to preschool, can not even write their own names.
My Project
By having these resources, my students will hear someone other than myself speaking English to them, they will hear songs and do the movements to go along with them. By having these items, my students will have many opportunities to do Total Physical Response activities.
My school is 100% poverty.
With the economy being what it is, the district, nor I, have the ability to supply the students with what they need. My students need to practice using their English with reading, writing, listening and speaking activities all day everyday.
