Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are facing the same old books year after year. We want to start something new, get them excited about reading new and current literature. Our students love scary books and what a great way to introduce them to new literature than through a book club with a genre they love.

This is an at risk school and has been determined "Needs Improvement, Year 6".

All of the teachers are pulling together to help the students in any way possible to help the students become more successful. We are 80% Hispanic with a very high ELL population.

My Project

The students will be using these books for book clubs. They will be introduced to new literature, new series and authors as well as an introduction to new vocabulary. Throughout our book club we will be able to discuss words they may not understand, give opinions about books, and develop life long reading skills. These books will be utilized over and over by different book clubs, teachers, the library and the literacy lab after the initial book club has had a chance to read them.

With education being funded less and less, teachers are forced to either buy materials themselves or look for funding else where.

Please do not deny our students this wonderful opportunity to enrich their language and reading skills. It starts in the Elementary grades and is a skill they will have forever.
