My Students

Do you remember your high school geometry class? A list of rules, shapes and conjectures were given with no applications to the real word. What if we could change this? With the use of a Digital Camera, my students will be able to create meaning and real applications that will keep their interests.

My students attend a school in an urban setting, where many come from underprivileged households.

These students are very tech savvy, and get enjoyment in being able to use technology in the classroom. My students attend a school that contains Smaller Learning Communities(SLC). By having these SLC's the students have program track options geared toward a desired area of interest. My SLC area of interest is the arts (drama, vocals, dancing, painting, etc.). The students that will attend my math class will be active members of the school / community, where they are required to be members of the fall and spring shows.

My Project

By having a Samsung digital camera and 4GB memory card, my students will be able to apply real world applications to the geometry lessons. With the use of the camera, these students will capture photos of themselves and surroundings, where they will apply / develop the properties of parallelograms. By developing these properties, they will be better prepared for the drafting/shading class that is required for this SLC's area of interest. Also, with the use of the video feature and 12 MP's, these students will tap into their dramatic side. They will have the opportunity to create / publish podcasts that can help their fellow students and classes around the world.

By having the Samsung Digital Camera and Memory, my students will have that opportunity, to have joy, excitement and be engaged in learning.
