Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Aspiring readers need engaging reading materials. This is particularly true for aspiring readers with special needs!

I teach a bilingual special education class in which the students are classified as mentally retarded.

These students are doubly challenged as they are struggling to learn a new language and contending with strong developmental delays. I work hard to teach these children to read. This requires a lot of interactive, hands-on instruction, and many engaging materials.

My Project

I am requesting a set of TAG readers and several TAG books including "Miss Spider's Tea Party" and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom". TAG is an interactive reading system that allows children to read books by themselves along with help for difficult words. It also allows the students to "explore" a book by touching pictures in the book with the TAG pen. The Leapfrog TAG system has been shown to improve students' reading levels. It is engaging, motivating, and fun.

I believe that a TAG reading system and accompanying books would inspire my students to read and to love reading.
